A senior police official in northern Takhar province and his three guards were killed in an ambush on Sunday morning, an official said.

Shah Tawoos, provincial commander of public order police in Takhar, was killed while he was returning from neighbouring Kunduz province, Jawad Hijri, a spokesman for provincial governor, told 1TV.
Three of his guards were also killed while four others were injured in the ambush which happened in Khan Abad district, the official said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
