The statement by Resolute Support mission gave no further details.
The incident brings the number of US troops killed in Afghanistan to 14 in 2019.
Around 14,000 US troops are present in Afghanistan as part of RS mission to train, assist and advise Afghan forces and to carry out counterterrorism operations.
The incident comes as the US is holding talks with the Taliban to end the nearly 18-year-old war.
