As countries continue to monitor the spread of Coronavirus, more are opening their borders to try to kickstart the economy.
In mid-May, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Gholem-Reza Ansari had hinted that negotiations were going well between Tehran and Ashgabat, and he expected the borders to reopen within 10 to 20 days.
At that point, Turkmenistan had been the only country whose borders with Iran were still closed.
Restrictions have been placed on Iran’s trade with Afghanistan through borders in Milak, Dogharoun and Mahirud. Afghanistan had indicated its readiness to open the Iran-Afghanistan-Tajikistan and Iran-Afghanistan-Uzbekistan routes to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, provided Iran opened its borders with Turkmenistan.
A spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi, said, “It is predicted that Iran’s trade activity with Afghanistan will be resumed within the next one or two days.”
