Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: The Chinese military announced today (Saturday) that the recent flight of a US aircraft over the Taiwan Strait has disrupted the situation in the region and endangered peace and stability.
According to Reuters, Xi Yi, spokesman for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Eastern Command, said in a statement: "The army has organized its ground and air forces to monitor Friday's operation by US aircraft."
"China strongly opposes US actions and its forces are on full alert," he said.
Chinese Defense Minister Feng Shui warned his US counterpart at the Shangri-La Dialogue Asian Security Summit in late June that US arms exports to Taiwan were a clear interference in China's internal affairs and threatened peace in the Taiwan Strait.
The Chinese official called on Washington to immediately suspend arms sales to Taiwan and cut off military ties with it.
The United States is Taiwan's most important international backer and arms supplier, despite its lack of formal diplomatic relations. The Chinese military has also announced that it recently conducted a military exercise around Taiwan as a serious warning against Taiwan-US collusion.
