Richard Bennett demanded a detailed follow-up of the explosion in the offices of the Ava news agency and the Tebyan center in Balkh
Following the reactions to yesterday's explosion at the representative offices of the Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) and Tebyan Center in Mazar-e-Sharif, Richard Bennett, the special rapporteur of the United Nations Human Rights Council for Afghanistan, has called for a detailed investigation and follow-up of the explosion.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Special Rapporteur of the UN Human Rights Council for Afghanistan wrote in a tweet last night (March 11) that the attack on the gathering of journalists at the Tebyan Social Cultural Center in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif is another blow to the freedom of expression in Afghanistan.
 
In his writing, Bennett also called for more support for journalists in Afghanistan.
 
The latest reports on the situation of the martyrs and the wounded in the terrorist attack on Saturday, 20th of August at the representative office of the Tebyan Center and the Afghan Voice Agency in Mazar-e-Sharif, indicate that 3 martyrs and 37 wounded were killed, and a significant part of these casualties were journalists. Hussain Naderi, a reporter of AVA news agency, and Akmal Nazari, a journalism student and reporter, are among the martyrs of this terrorist attack. The condition of the three injured in this incident is reported to be serious.
 
The explosion took place around 10:50 a.m. and half an hour after the start of a conference called "Mahadvit, Media and Culture Promotion" which was supposed to be held on the sidelines of the conference, on the eve of the National Journalist's Day in the country, of active journalists in the city. Mazar-e-Sharif should also be commended, because of this, this conference was attended by a large number of journalists and photographers.
 
Following this explosion, all the glass and windows of the ceremony venue, which was in the basement, were broken.
 
After the explosion, the wounded and those who remained unharmed left the basement of the office in a hurry and the wounded were quickly taken to the hospital. With the arrival of the security forces, the place has been surrounded and the situation is under their control.
 
Although the security sources stated that the death toll of this explosion was one martyr and 8 wounded, but hospital and local sources in a conversation with the Ava reporter reported that three people were martyred and 37 others were injured.
