Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Pakistan's Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, in his speech at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Goa, India, referred to the situation in Afghanistan and called for a meaningful interaction of the international community with this country.
Zardari said: Afghanistan's situation brings challenges as well as new opportunities. We also call on the international community to meaningfully engage with the interim government of Afghanistan to better understand and influence the course of events.
The Foreign Minister of Pakistan continued: After Afghanistan has been the playground of great powers many times, we owe it to the people of Afghanistan not to repeat the mistakes of the past. A united international community must continue to demand that the Afghan authorities adopt universally accepted principles of political inclusion and respect for the rights of all Afghans, including girls' right to education.
Stating that Pakistan is the first country that will bear the consequences of insecurity in Afghanistan, Zardari asked the ruling body of Afghanistan to adhere to its commitments of not allowing Afghanistan's soil to be used for terrorism.
He added: The international community should also generally help build the capacity to fight terrorism for the security of Afghanistan, the region and the world. It is worrying that the terrorist groups in Afghanistan are cooperating with each other more than we as the international community.
Stating that the international community should work to address security concerns, he added: A peaceful and stable Afghanistan is not only the key to regional integration and economic cooperation, but also to global peace and stability. We believe that the SCO-Afghanistan contact group can play a role in coordinating practical cooperation with Afghanistan.
