Inauguration of the second phase of Qosh Tappe Canal with the presence of high-ranking officials of the Islamic Emirate in Balkh
The opening ceremony of the second phase of the construction of the Qosh Tappe canal was attended by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and Abdul Salam Hanafi, deputy Prime Minister, Mullah Yaqub Mujahid, Acting Minister of Defense, Sirajuddin Haqqani, Acting Minister of Interior, Attaullah Omari, Acting Minister of Agriculture, Shir Mohammad Abbas Stanakzai, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and local authorities of Balkh, today (Wednesday, October 11, 2023) was held in Daulat Abad district of Balkh.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Mazar-Sharif: Abdul Salam Hanafi, the administrative deputy of the prime minister, said in this ceremony that Afghanistan's neighbors should not be worried about this channel and that the caretaker government respects their rights from the "Amo Sea".
 
He asked the neighboring countries of Afghanistan to respect the legitimate rights of Afghanistan.
 
Also, Acting Minister of Interior Sirajuddin Haqqani said in this ceremony that although the current budget of the government does not allow such big projects, but as a result of "resolute will" this project is being implemented.
 
Haqqani added that big projects will not be delayed due to the special situation of the country.
 
Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid, the Acting Minister of Defense, also emphasized at the opening ceremony of the second phase of the Qosh Tappe Canal project: "We will not allow the nefarious intentions of the enemy to prevent such large projects at any cost, and we will never encroach on the rights of our neighbors regarding the waters of the Amu Sea. We will not do it and we ask others not to worry about using our rights."
 
In addition to this, Attaullah Omari, Acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock also stated in this ceremony: "We will provide good fruits and whole foods to the world. The Ministry of Agriculture provides comprehensive facilities to the people. We need another independence to achieve. You can see that water is flowing in the desert now.
 
This is while the first phase of Qosh Tappe canal was 108 km and it started from Amu Sea and ended in Daulat Abad district, which was completed in 18 months.
 
The second phase of this canal starts from Daulat Abad district of Balkh and after passing through Aqche Shaberghan district, it ends in Andkhoi Faryab district, which is 177 km long.
 
The third phase also includes the construction of sub-channels.
 
Qosh Tappe canal is 285 km long, 8.5 meters wide and transfers 668.4 cubic meters of water in one second.
 
With the completion of this canal, 580,000 hectares of land in the north of the country will be converted into agricultural land.
