Journalists do not have immunity in Afghanistan
The watchdog for supporting Afghanistan's freedom of media "Nei" says that today's attack on media workers in Mazar-e-Sharif showed that journalists in Afghanistan do not have immunity.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Following the bloody incident this morning at the provincial offices of Afghan Voice News Agency and the Tebyan center in Mazar-e-Sharif, Ney issued a statement condemning it.
 
Nei's announcement states: "Reports from Mazar-e-Sharif that an attack has taken place on a gathering of journalists who were supposed to be honored.”According to the initial information, this attack took place in Tebyan center, where several journalists were present."
 
The announcement adds that until now, no relevant institution has done comprehensive information and this has caused speculations about the number of casualties of our colleagues. Accordingly, the concern about this incident is getting deeper and deeper every moment.
 
Based on the announcement of Nei Office; the attack on the lives of journalists shows that journalists do not have immunity in Afghanistan and that the relevant institutions have not paid the necessary attention to the issue.
 
Nei asks the related information institutions to provide accurate information to dispel the concerns of the people and the journalistic community of the country.
 
This is while this morning (Saturday, 20th of August) the representative office of the Afghan Voice News Agency (Ava) and the center of cultural and social activities of Tebyan in Mazar-e-Sharif were targeted by an explosion. Preliminary information indicates that three people were martyred and 30 others, including a large number of journalists, were injured in this incident.
 
The identity of the martyrs and the wounded is not known. It is said that a large number of journalists are also among the wounded.
 
At the time of the explosion, 25 journalists were present at the event.
