Australia announced one million dollar aid to Herat earthquake victims
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Australia has announced that the country's government is deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction caused by the earthquake in Afghanistan and is donating $1 million to the victims of the earthquake in Herat.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: In the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Australia, which was published today (Wednesday, October 11, 2023), it is stated that this earthquake has aggravated the severe humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, where 29.2 million people are currently severely displaced.
 
According to the announcement, Australia's aid will be provided through the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) led by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
 
OCHA is supposed to provide emergency shelter, health services, food and protection to vulnerable people.
 
Australia has said that it has already allocated $50 million in 2023-2024 to the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan.
 
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has said that she is deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction caused by the earthquake in Afghanistan.
 
"Australia's support will be provided through independent agencies to provide basic needs such as shelter, food and medicine," he said. "Australia stands by the people of Afghanistan."
 
On Saturday of this week, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale shook Zindajan district and a number of other districts of Herat.
 
According to Doctors without Borders, 2,450 people have been killed and 2,440 injured in Saturday's earthquake.
 
The aftershocks of the earthquake continue and this morning an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 shook Herat and the western provinces. It is said that dozens of injured people have been taken to hospitals from today's earthquake.
