Oman slams Israeli airstrikes on UN-run schools in northern Gaza
Oman has strongly condemned Israel’s relentless military attacks against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, particularly the deadly raids on UN school-converted shelters in the northern flank of the enclave.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-Monitoring: The Omani Foreign Ministry, in a statement released on Saturday, offered the sultanate’s condolences to the families of those killed in the assaults and wished a speedy recovery for the wounded.
Oman praised the steadfastness of “the brave Palestinians in the face of the Israeli injustice, aggression and occupation of Palestinian territories, which continue in flagrant violation of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.”
The statement also renewed Oman’s call on the international community to take practical steps to impose deterrent sanctions on Israel to stop its aggression and the crimes it commits against civilians.
Such crimes, including Israel’s continued enforcement of an inhumane blockade on the Gaza Strip and depriving people of basic necessities including fuel, water, food, and medicine, display contempt and disregard for the human soul and human dignity, the Omani Foreign Ministry stated.
The statement slammed these actions as a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international principles, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Jordan also on Saturday condemned the Israeli strikes on UN-run schools in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry voiced the kingdom’s strong rejection and condemnation of Israeli assaults, saying they were in blatant violation of international law.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Sufian Qudah, stressed the need for more strenuous efforts to stop unrelenting Israeli attacks, the Tel Aviv regime’s “repeated violations of international law and international humanitarian law,” and its assaults on civilians, schools, hospitals and places of worship.
Also, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the bombing of the al-Fakhoora school represents Israel’s “another blatant violation” against civilians in Gaza, and “another war crime that requires investigation and holding its perpetrators to account.”
It added that targeting the school, which is run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), constitutes a deliberate insult to the UN, its relief organizations and humanitarian goals.
The ministry reiterated its appeal to influential international parties and the UN Security Council to intervene immediately to put an end to the human suffering in the Gaza Strip, implement an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and provide the necessary protection for Palestinian civilians.
Earlier on Saturday, at least 100 Palestinians were killed and dozens of others wounded after Israel bombed the al-Fakhoora school, which housed displaced people in the northern Gaza Strip.
Dozens more were killed and injured in another Israeli attack on the Tel al-Zaatar school in northern Gaza./Press tv
