OCHA: Food Security Improved in Afghanistan

 

The OCHA announced that, from the beginning of 2023 until now, $53 million from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund and $135 million from the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund have been allocated to support humanitarian actions, including assistance to those affected by natural disasters and unpredictable crises.

 

According to the report, this financial assistance has been utilized in shelter, food, health, water, health maintenance, and nutrition sectors for those in need.

 

The report states that these financial aids have slightly improved the outlook for food security, reducing the projected number of people experiencing acute hunger from 18.3 million to 15.8 million between November 2023 and March 2024.

 

Despite the decrease in the number of Afghans facing acute hunger, the report emphasizes that 15.8 million individuals will still face this challenge between November of the current year and March of the next year.

 

The number of people in conditions of food insecurity due to emergencies has also decreased from 5.1 million to 3.5 million, according to the organization.
