Three American soldiers were killed and 34 injured in a drone attack in Jordan
US President Joe Biden and the country's officials announced on Sunday that three American soldiers were killed and dozens of people were probably injured following a drone attack on American forces stationed in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to Reuters, Biden held Iran-backed groups responsible for this attack. This is the first deadly attack against American forces since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in October.

"While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we do know that it was carried out by Iranian-backed extremist militia groups operating in Syria and Iraq," Biden said in a statement.

He said: "Don't doubt - we will hold all the responsible people accountable at the time and in the way we want."

Biden later called for a moment of silence for three soldiers killed during a campaign event in South Carolina, adding, "We will respond."

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin repeated the threat. He and other senior officials had briefed Biden on the attack earlier in the day.

According to the US Central Command statement, at least 34 people were injured in this attack. Eight people were taken out of Jordan for higher level care.

Two US officials said the drone strike took place early in the morning near a military base.

The Islamic Resistance of Iraq, an organization under the guise of Iranian-backed militia groups, claimed responsibility for the attacks on three bases, including one on the Jordanian-Syrian border.

This attack is a major escalation in the tense situation in the Middle East. The war in Gaza started after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, which killed 1,200 people. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Israeli attacks have killed more than 26,000 Palestinians since then.

Since then, American forces have been attacked more than 150 times by Iran-backed groups in Iraq and Syria. US warships have also been attacked by Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen.

While the United States has not officially announced that it has entered the war in the region, the United States has carried out attacks against Iran-backed groups in Iraq and Syria and Yemen's Houthis.
