Bombs destroy mosque in east Afghanistan

A mosque was destroyed after being bombed in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province before dawn on Tuesday, officials said.

Images posted by the provincial governor’s office showed the mosque in Momand Dara district with a part of its wall near the stage collapsed.

The mosque is adjacent to a shrine which was also damaged in the attack which involved several planted bombs.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Nangarhar is a stronghold for Islamic State militant group.

The group has previously targeted mosques and shrines in Iraq and Syria.

This is not the first time that a mosque is bombed in Momand Dara district.

A previous incident in the district killed imam and injured eight other worshippers.
