Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday warned members of the parliament not to reach out to ministries for appointments.

AVA- With full respect, I ask (members of) the National Assembly not to reach out to ministries for appointments,” Ghani said during a police graduation ceremony in Kabul. “If you reach out, you will be recorded and exposed on TVs.”

Ghani said that he would not approve any appointment under pressure.

Referring specifically to Interior Ministry, Ghani said that anyone who has been appointed through connection “has fled their stronghold.”

“Anyone who has been appointed by paying bribes has committed stealing,” he said.

The ceremony saw 446 police officers graduated from the National Police Academy.

“You are graduating with tough circumstances as we have not achieved full security which is wished by the people,” Ghani said.

The president, however, noted that the Afghan force is being strengthened.

“Our Air Force will be tripled, our commando has been doubled,” he said.

This paves the way for police to focus on enforcing law instead of fighting, he said
