Taliban leaders give nod to temporary ceasefire in Afghanistan
Taliban leaders have given their negotiators nod to agree on temporary ceasefire in Afghanistan, sources told 1TV on Monday.
A three-member Taliban delegation travelled from their political office in Qatar to Pakistan to consult their leadership about possible ceasefire in Afghanistan.
It came after US negotiators said on December 13 that they were taking a brief pause for the Taliban to consult their leadership on ceasefire.
“Taliban must show they are willing and able to respond to Afghan desire for peace,” Khalilzad said after the group carried out a suicide attack on US base in Bagaram that killed two civilians and wounded dozens others.
Last week, Arab News reported that US negotiators have demanded the Taliban to agree to a 10-day ceasefire.
The report said that Americans had warned that there would be no further talks unless ceasefire is declared.
Sources said that the Taliban would declare ceasefire during the signing of peace deal with the US.
