Tehran and Ankara jointly underscored that the Israeli officials should face trial for their crimes against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: Iran and Turkey issued a joint statement following an official visit to Ankara by President Seyed Ebrahim Rayeesi, stressing the need to “confront the impunity of political and military leaders “of the Israeli regime and their “trial in competent courts for war crimes, genocide, and other forms of crimes”.
They welcomed the legal actions of the South African government against Tel Aviv in the International Court of Justice (ICJ), condemning the crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the besieged enclave.
In late December, South Africa brought proceedings against Israel at the ICJ, alleging it had breached the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in its aerial and ground bombardment of the blockaded enclave which has so far killed more than 25,700 people, mainly children and women.
A two-day public hearing of South Africa’s case was held at The Hague in mid-January. The ICJ has announced that it will deliver its ruling Friday on whether to enact provisional measures to temporarily suspend Israel's military campaign in Gaza.
ICJ rulings are legally binding in theory, but they are usually unenforceable.
“Expressing concern over the continuation of the heinous crimes of the Zionist regime against the oppressed people of Gaza, they called for the immediate cessation of Israel's attacks, the immediate and unconditional lifting of the unjust blockade of Gaza, and the urgent, sufficient, and unimpeded dispatch of essential goods and services to the Palestinian people,” the joint statement read.
Both countries also emphasized the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially the right to self-defense./Fars News
