Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: Nasser Kanani, the spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, answered the questions of reporters today, Monday, April 5, in his weekly press conference, including the question of the AVA reporter about the outcome of the Afghanistan Regional Cooperation Initiative meeting, responded as the first meeting of the initiative to form a regional contact group with Afghanistan by Iran, as well as the upcoming Doha meeting.

He said that the idea of establishing a regional contact group with Afghanistan was proposed by Iran at the Moscow format meeting about four months ago, and in this context extensive consultations were held at various levels of the Afghan caretaker government and representatives of neighboring countries and the region, which finally led to the formation of a regional contact group with Afghanistan. A regional contact group was formed with Afghanistan, with the participation of 4 countries: Iran, Pakistan, Russia and China.

The spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry added that ambassadors and representatives of 8 other countries also attended the meeting in Kabul and discussed and negotiated the developments in Afghanistan in a regional approach.

He emphasized that the regional contact group is a safe contact channel to seek an executive mechanism from the neighbors and countries of the region, based on traditional and indigenous patterns to create better conditions for the Afghan nation.

According to Kanani, this is part of Iran's efforts in the framework of cooperation with other neighbors of Afghanistan and countries in the region to create better conditions in the country.

Regarding the holding of the Doha meeting by the UN Secretary General on Afghanistan in two weeks, he emphasized that Iran has always tried to have an effective and constructive presence in all regional and global mechanisms related to Afghanistan.

However, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran noted that he still does not have detailed information about the level at which this country will participate in the Doha meeting.

In response to another question about Iran's right to water from the Hirmand River in Afghanistan, Kanani said that there is no new news in this area, but this issue is one of the serious issues discussed in contacts, discussions and meetings at different levels with the government. It is the guardian of Afghanistan and Iran expects Afghanistan to fulfill its obligations to ensure the country's water rights according to the treaty.

At the same time, the Afghanistan regional cooperation initiative meeting was held on Monday last week, January 29, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, with the presence of special representatives, ambassadors and diplomats of 12 countries in Kabul.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the special representative of the presidency and the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the affairs of Afghanistan, emphasized in his speech in this meeting: the purpose of the first round of these talks should be based on maintaining the security of the people of Afghanistan and its neighboring environment, rather than studying to prepare a security plan. Collectively, in dealing with terrorist structures and organizations, it should be discussed. He emphasized the need to pay attention to this priority by the United Nations, and warned against any selective treatment and prioritization of new cases regarding the developments in Afghanistan.

This is Mr. Qomi's position regarding the Doha meeting and the selection of a new representative for Afghanistan, who, along with China and Russia, expressed his opposition to the creation of a new mission by the United Nations regarding Afghanistan, just like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate.

Speaking to reporters after the Kabul meeting, Iran's special representative for Afghanistan affairs also stated that the security and stability of Afghanistan and the neighboring countries and the region are tied together, and noted that the importance and message of the Kabul regional meeting to the world is that the neighboring countries and The region plays the first role in Afghanistan after the occupation period.
