Macron
On Monday, June 20, 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron called on European countries to seek more independence in the defense of their airspace and to refrain from relying too much on America. In the closing speech of a conference in Paris where defense ministers and other representatives of 20 European countries were present, Macron expressed his opinion about the idea of European airspace protection by Europeans.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Germany, England, and Sweden, as well as Ukraine's neighbors like Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania, as well as representatives of NATO and the European Union, were present at this conference. Emmanuel Macron asked European defense equipment manufacturers to build independent military systems and produce them in this continent. France has openly criticized Germany's plan to improve Europe's air defense capabilities. The so-called European Sky Shield project, which was launched at the end of last year, consists of 17 European countries, including England, but France is not present in it. This plan is supposed to be integrated into NATO's air and missile defense systems. The French government believes that this project does not preserve European sovereignty, because the equipment will be largely based on American and Zionist industries.

The French President's request to avoid Europe's military dependence on America is in line with his general idea of maintaining Europe's strategic independence and playing Europe's role in the world arena as an actor independent of America and China. After his visit to China in April 2023, Emmanuel Macron called for Europe's strategic independence from America and said: Europe's dependence on America for weapons and energy has increased, and now Europe needs to focus on strengthening its defense industries.

In recent years, the French president has repeatedly emphasized the need to create an independent European army. Emmanuel Macron, before this, in January 2023, while requesting to reduce Europe's security and economic dependence on America, stressed that Brussels should adopt the strategy of "building Europe" against the protectionist policies of the American government towards its companies. The President of France has called for the implementation of the economic strategy of "making Europe" in this continent with the aim of supporting the European industrial network, creating jobs and increasing competitiveness to counter America's policies. Emmanuel Macron says: "We need the "Building Europe" strategy to be consistent with global developments and to be a response to America's policy." The economic strategy of "Making Europe" proposed by Macron is actually an initiative to counter America's economic policies, which seeks to protect its domestic goods against goods imported from Europe.

The president of France has similar concerns about Europe's defense and military dependence on America. Despite the Europeans accompanying Washington in the campaign to support Ukraine during the Russia-Ukraine war, Macron believes that Europe should have an independent military capability from the United States, including in the field of producing and using all kinds of weapon systems needed to defend especially air and anti-missile defense systems. This approach of France is not very favorable to Germany as the most important country of the European Union and the first economy of Europe and an important European member of NATO. In fact, after the Ukraine war, in a fundamental revision of its defense policy, Germany not only increased the share of military expenses in the GDP significantly, even more than 2% of the GDP, and a budget of 100 billion euros for these expenses. It has considered that it has turned to America to supply its military equipment and has started to buy F-35 fifth generation fighter planes from America. While France emphasizes the need to produce and buy military equipment and all types of weapons from within Europe. This issue has now crystallized in the French President's opposition to the purchase of air defense system components from America and its ally, the Zionist regime.
