US Soldier Killed in Fighting Against Daesh in Nangarhar
The soldier was a special forces operator and was killed in the Achin district of Nangarhar province, a Resolute Support spokesman said.

A U.S soldier was killed during an operation against Daesh in Nangarhar province on Saturday, Resolute Support officials confirmed.

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA), "The soldier was mortally wounded late Saturday during an operation in Nangarhar Province" in eastern Afghanistan, said Navy Captain Bill Salvin in a message on the official Twitter account of the NATO-led Resolute Support mission.

The soldier was a special forces operator and was killed in the Achin district of Nangarhar province, Salvin told Reuters separately.

However, he did not provide further details and said that more information could be released later.

This comes a day after the U.S announced it will deploy 1500 soldiers from Alaska to Afghanistan later this year, the U.S Army announced Friday.

"These soldiers train rigorously in a wide range of climates and environments. I am fully confident in their ability to excel and overcome any challenges they will face during this deployment," said Maj. Gen. Bryan Owens, the commanding general of U.S Army Alaska, in an Army press release.

The deployment of the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, is part of a regular rotation of forces in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

U.S troops in Afghanistan are split between two missions -- NATO's Resolute Support mission to advise Afghan security forces and the separate Freedom's Sentinel, the U.S counter-terrorism operation against the remnants of al-Qaeda; an emerging offshoot of Daesh; and other terrorists groups.

The U.S still has some 8400 troops in Afghanistan.
