IEC releases preliminary list of parliamentary candidates in seven provinces
Afghanistan's Independent Election Commission released preliminary list of parliamentary candidates in seven provinces late Friday.
Based on the the timetable, the commission should have released preliminary list of nominees for parliamentary and district councils elections across the country on Thursday (28th June).
The preliminary list released cover candidates in capital Kabul, Uruzgan, Nimroz, Khost, Bamyan, Kunar and Nuristan.
In Kabul, out of 850 people who registered as parliamentary candidates, 73 were disqualified due to problem in their documents.
Some election monitoring institutions criticized that there are those in the preliminary list in Kabul, who still hold government posts or are members of the provincial council.
Afghanistan’s long-delayed parliamentary and district councils elections are due to be held on 20th October.
Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, deputy spokesman for IEC, said that list of candidates in the remaining provinces will be announced soon.
