According to reports, the bodies of 18 Afghan refugees were found in a truck in Bulgaria.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Sources say that the bodies of 18 Afghan refugees were discovered from a wood truck in Bulgaria on Friday, February 18, 2023.
 
Bulgarian police officials said that the bodies of these people were found on Friday in the suburbs of Sofia, the capital of that country.
 
The police of this country also said that a local resident informed them about the stop of an abandoned truck 20 kilometers from the Lokorsko area, located in the city of Sofia.
 
Meanwhile, following the discovery of the bodies of these 18 people, including a child, inside a truck in Bulgaria, the police announced the arrest of four suspects who were previously accused of human trafficking.
 
According to the police, it seems that this truck, which was abandoned near a village near Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, was carrying illegal immigrants.
 
34 people, including 5 children, were rescued from this truck and sent to hospitals in the region for treatment.
 
The police believe that most of these people are citizens of Afghanistan and were supposed to travel to Serbia illegally.
 
Asen Medzhidev; The Minister of Health of Bulgaria said that these people were affected by long hunger, cold and high humidity.
 
Mr. Medzhidev also said: "The people trapped inside the truck were suffering from lack of oxygen. The weather was cold and humid and they had not eaten for several days."
 
Bulgarian media have mentioned this incident as the deadliest accident related to human trafficking in this country.
 
Bulgaria is one of the routes of illegal immigration to EU member states.
 
Human rights organizations have accused the Bulgarian government of mistreating asylum seekers.
