Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The bodies of migrants who died in Bulgaria will be transferred to the country
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said in a tweet that the ministry has tasked the Afghan embassy in Bulgaria to provide the conditions for the transfer of the migrants who died in this country to Afghanistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a tweet on Friday (February 24) that the bodies of 18 Afghan citizens will be transferred to the country in a special plane after forensic examinations in Bulgaria.

According to him, 17 of these bodies have been identified and another one has not been identified.

Fazel Saifi, Afghanistan's ambassador to Bulgaria, has also said that the work on establishing the identity of 18 Afghans who died in that country is nearing its end.

Seifi said that after some official procedures, the transfer of the bodies to Kabul will begin.

Following the death of 18 Afghan refugees in Bulgaria, the country's government announced that it had arrested six people in connection with this case.

The Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office said that when the driver of the truck realized that the condition of most of these refugees was serious and that some of them had died, he abandoned the truck and ran away.

Hristo Krastov, the spokesman of the Sofia Prosecutor's Office, told the media that one of the accused in this incident is still on the run.

Bulgaria has installed barbed wire on its 259-kilometer border with Turkey, and the border police of that country regularly prevent the entry of asylum seekers.

Bulgaria is considered a transit route for refugees from the Middle East and Afghanistan to Europe, but very few refugees have reached their destination safely. From being beaten and killed by smugglers, to the bad behavior of the police, cold weather and traffic accidents, the lives of refugees are threatened.

Despite all these risks, many Afghans have traveled the dangerous routes of Bulgaria and many other countries to reach Europe in the past years.
