Foreign Minister and head of Iran
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the head of Iran's National Migration Organization have traveled to Switzerland to participate in the second World Refugee Forum. The second World Refugee Forum is scheduled to be held in Geneva for three days starting today, Wednesday.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Hossein Amirabdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with Abdullah Mobini, head of the National Migration Organization of this country, and a number of other Iranian officials, traveled to the European headquarters of the United Nations on Tuesday, December 11. The main agenda of this trip is to participate in the second meeting of the World Refugee Assembly and give a speech in this meeting.
 
This forum is held once every four years with the presence of high-ranking officials of countries, international organizations and non-governmental organizations on the issue of refugees and migrants.
 
The World Refugee Forum is considered a platform for presenting the obligations of the international community to support refugees and their host countries and respond to the refugee situation.
 
This forum is considered as the most important meeting at the global level in the field of response to the refugee situation in the world, and the representatives of the countries hosting the refugees, as well as the representatives of the governments, non-governmental organizations, etc. will be present in this meeting.
 
The Iranian delegation headed by Dr. Amir Abdullahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dr. Mobini, head of the National Migration Organization and representatives from the Ministry of Interior/Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health will participate in this forum.
 
According to Iranian media, the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran will also participate in related roundtables and give speeches on the sidelines of the forum.
 
Abdullah Mobini, the head of Iran's National Immigration Organization, had previously announced that nearly 670,000 people out of a total of 4,300,000 foreigners allowed to live in this country are students, nearly 200,000 of them are students and students of religious sciences and about 35 percent, that is, approximately one million and 500 thousand people, are women.
 
According to this Iranian official, more than 300,000 of the registered citizens are children who are under compulsory education. The majority of these are Afghan nationals, but there are also nationals of other countries in this statistic, such as Iraqi, Pakistani, and Bahraini nationals, and in total, there are foreign nationals in Iran from about 80 countries, and non-Afghans make up nearly 10% of all foreign nationals in Iran. they give.
 
It is worth mentioning that on the sidelines of the Second World Refugee Forum, a special meeting will be held on the special topic of Palestine and the latest developments in Gaza.
 
In 2018, after several years of negotiations, the International Convention on Refugees was drafted and approved by the United Nations in a resolution. According to this document, it was decided to hold a meeting at this level once every 4 years to review the issues of refugees. The first meeting was held in Geneva in 2019.
